How to get there - Dijon
In the heart of the vineyards
Steps: Santenay
Starting from Dijon, follow the Voie des Vignes (Vineyard Trail) which runs along the route of the Grands Crus to Santenay, at the gateway to the Côte Chalonnaise. As its name indicates, you will cycle 100% in the vineyards!
Along the Saône river...
Steps: Mâcon
Heading for the banks of the Canal du Centre, used by the Euro Vélo 6. It starts in Chalon-sur-Saône and ends in Digoin, from the Saône to the Loire. You will discover landscapes where vineyards and old mining towns alternate until you reach the Charolais region. At this stage, you can also choose to leave the official route proposed by Burgundy Tourism for a while by adding the loop specifically dedicated to Southern Burgundy: it links Chalon-sur-Saône to Mâcon and takes superb routes, via the Chalonnaise coast and the banks of the Saône.
And of the Loire
Steps: Digoin
It is from Digoin and its imposing bridge-canal which spans the Loire that you will now follow the lateral canal to the Loire. It is 196 km long and starts there. While pedaling on its banks you will approach Nevers and La Charité-sur-Loire to reach Decize.
The Nivernais Canal
Steps: Auxerre
From there, the canal goes to the Centre-Val de Loire side. Also, head towards the Nivernais canal which will lead you to Auxerre (for more information see "Strolling on the Nivernais canal").
