The country of Montbéliard
Steps: Saint-Hippolyte
The Montbéliard region is worth discovering, as is the city of the same name and its famous castle of the Dukes of Wutemberg. It is a good start to go to the Lomont mountains and the castle of Belvoir, a fortress of the 12th century. Come back to Saint-Hippolyte, where the Dessoubre river flows into the Doubs, offering you the choice to follow the Dessoubre or the Doubs valley.
To neighbouring Switzerland
Steps: Villers-Le-Lac
On the way to the heights, pass by Maîche, then go to the cirque de Consolation, an exceptional natural site. Le Bizot is a very pretty village nestled at an altitude of 930 m in the heart of the fir trees. Morteau is famous for its famous sausage, but it is also a very dynamic city, in the heart of the watchmaking country. To visit: its museum which contains remarkable collections. A few kilometers away, Villers-le-Lac. You are touching the Swiss border. A boat trip is necessary to take you to the Saut du Doubs (35 m), the first natural site in France. Good restaurants are waiting for you with superb landscapes.
The Upper Doubs
Steps: Pontarlier
Fill up on good cured meats, it's time. You must see the villages of the Haut-Doubs like Grand'Combe-Châteleu with its imposing farms. Drive through the gorge of Entreroches, for about 30 kilometers, then Montbenoît and its 11th century abbey. You will arrive in Pontarlier, a very commercial city, and its famous castle of Joux. For your stopover, head for Malbuisson, and the Saint-Point lake, one of the largest in France. Numerous hotels and restaurants will give you the embarrassment of choice.
To the resort of Les Rousses
Steps: Hauts De Bienne
After a restful night in altitude and in a magnificent setting, before entering the Jura department, you will cross the coldest commune in France: Mouthe. Then you will cross the famous cross-country skiing areas: Chaux-Neuve, Chapelle-des-Bois, and make a stop at the Polar Park, it is on your way. Hauts de Bienne is a town with a history of craftsmanship where ancestral know-how has been enhanced. Eyewear, enamel, watchmaking... it is here that the most beautiful productions in these fields were created. To see on these subjects the museum of the spectacle in the city center. You climb another ten kilometers or so and here you are in the resort of Les Rousses, a town on a human scale, renowned for winter sports, but which is now a real "Four Seasons" resort. To visit: the Juraflore cheese maturing cellars in the old fort.
