Incursion in the Loita primary forest

Le lac rose de Magadi.

To your shoes! A minimum of five hours of walking (300 metres of altitude difference) on forest trails, often used by forest animals (elephants, buffaloes and antelopes...). After the effort, the comfort: you will arrive in the middle of the afternoon at the Olasoru site (2,300 m), a spectacular waterfall. Bivouac in the middle of the forest for the night.

Loita Forest, between rivers and clearings

Steps: Lac Natron

A minimum of five hours of downhill walking (500 m of altitude difference) through the rocky hills covered with primary forests, overlooking the Rift Valley. Your eyes will be bathed in light, with lakes Magadi and Natron on the horizon and volcanoes Shompole and Ol Doinyo Lengai in the background. Bivouac at 1,800 m.

Day 4

From Loita to Nguruman, meeting Maasai communities

Here we go again for five hours of downhill walking (400 m of altitude difference). Change of atmosphere and temperature on arrival on the plateau of the Nguruman Escarpment. Semi-arid savannah landscape under overwhelming heat in the middle of the day. Meeting with the Maasai communities in their place of life. Bivouac at an altitude of 1,400 m.

Day 5

Village of Nguruman and Shompole Reserve

Final descent. Three hours of walking (800 meters of altitude difference). Arrival at the village of Nguruman. From there you will reach us by 4x4, on a track along the escarpment, Loisijo Lodge, on the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro river

Shompole Reserve

Lac Magadi, sud de la vallée du Rift.

Steps: Lac Natron

Visit by 4x4 of the Shompole reserve, to meet the wildlife up to Lake Natron, on the Tanzanian border. Accommodation at Loisijo Lodge, the only one existing in this very touristy area. Evening wood fire at the river woods and candlelit dinner. Night in a comfortable tent with a real bed! At night, at the bottom of his bed, it is not uncommon to hear the laughter of hyenas or the roar of a lion in the distance. Magic.
