Day 1: Arrival in New Orleans

Day 2: Vieux-Carré and Lake Pontchartrain

Steps: La Nouvelle-Orléans, Mandeville, Covington

Breakfast of doughnuts or grits and scrambled eggs, a short stroll through the Old Quarter to the docks and Jackson Square. Rent a car for two days and drive to the north shore of Lake Ponchartrain via the Causeway Bridge. Enjoy lunch on the lakefront in Mandeville, kayak the mystical Bayou Cane in the afternoon (which will give you a brief glimpse of Cajun country) before stopping for a refreshing drink at Abita Brewery or Ponchartrain Vineyards. Dinner in Covington at Oxlot 9 is a delight. Stay overnight at one of the local B&Bs. If you're there in the spring, check out the Dew Drop program for a unique music experience.
