On the wine road
Steps: Sopron
The wine route will first take you from Sopron (wines close to Austrian wines) to Pannonhalma, near Gyor. It is in the valley of this thousand-year-old abbey that the wine tradition - at least as old - has recently been reintroduced.
Heading for Lake Balaton
Steps: Badacsony
Direction Mór, for a fruity stopover from where you can head to Lake Balaton and Badacsony, the next stopover, where the wines are excellent.
Wines around the lake
Steps: Villány
Continue around Lake Balaton to Balatonboglár and Balatonlelle (the wines are light and fruity, with some very high quality cellars such as Konyári - Balatonlelle). Then further south, Villány and its region, often compared to Bordeaux, and Siklós for its whites.
Places of interest : KONYÁRI PINCÉSZET (CAVE KONYÁRI)
By going up the Danube
Steps: Hajós
Going up the Danube, you have to go through Hajós to admire its rows of whitewashed cellars and Szekszárd, another very famous vineyard, then Kecskemét (for its pálinka) and finally Eger and its region. Stop for a few days in this charming city before heading to the vineyards of Tokaj, further east.
Discovery of the real Tokaj
Steps: Sárospatak
It is in the surroundings of Tokaj, and as far as Sárospatak, that the greatest beverage of the country is cultivated (which Louis XIV said was "the wine of kings, king of wines"). Tokaj wine is the result of a serene climate, a generous and atypical land and a thousand-year-old know-how. By visiting the Tokaj Museum, you can learn more about the history of this precious nectar. A visit to the Rákóczi Pince cellar will reveal the secrets of its production. Tasting to support it... But to taste the real tokajs, you have to go from cellar to cellar!
An important point: Hungary does not tolerate drinking and driving. Any offender will be severely punished.
