How to get there - Thimphu

First step in Bhutan

Steps: Thimphu

Arrival in Paro. After lunch, drive to the capital, Thimphu. Walk around the city and visit the dzong ( Bhutan's famous temple fortress) of the capital.

On the way to Punakha

Steps: Punakha

The adventure begins with the crossing of the Dochu La pass, which culminates at 3,050 m. On a clear day, the peaks of the Eastern Himalayas can be seen in the distance: Tsendagang, Terigang and Gangkar Punsum, the highest peak in Bhutan. The journey continues towards the Punakha valley. The access to one of the most beautiful dzongs of Bhutan is via a suspension bridge.

On the way to Trongsa

Steps: Trongsa

The road will be long (5 hours/130 km) to reach Trongsa, in the Bumthang area. The walk towards the monastery of Chimi Lhakang offers a pleasant halt. In the small village nearby, the women cook rice in large pans. A new pass, the Pele La Pass (3,420 m), must be crossed. Along the winding road, it is not uncommon to encounter a few grazing yaks.

Day 4

Trongsa

This day will be placed under the sign of the visits: Nonnerie Kungarapten and walk in the southern district.

On the way to the Bumthang Valley

Steps: Trongsa

Allow 3 hours to reach the Bumthang Valley. Bordered on the west by the Black Mountains, central Bhutan is crossed by two rivers which have their source in the Himalayas. From Trongsa, you cross a third and fourth pass.

On the way to Thimphu

It is already time to return to Thimphu, where there is no shortage of visits: Folk Heritage Museum, National Bookstore, visit of the chörten of His Majesty Jigme Dorji Wangchuck.
