Stay : Climbing Kilimanjaro Machame way
The Machame route has been voted the most beautiful Kilimanjaro climb in the world!
Breathtaking views of Mount Meru, impressive Barranco Wall climb, well-maintained hiking trails... all reasons to love this route. You can also see more of Kilimanjaro, as the Machame route takes a different route than the descent to the summit.
Allow a total of 9 days for your trip, to include the outward journey and return. The ascent by the Machame route takes a total of six days, but it is also possible to do it in seven days so that your body can acclimatize properly. We recommend this extra day because it increases your chances of reaching the summit. In this case, you will take an extra day to walk from Barranco Camp to Barafu Camp and the fifth day of this route will correspond to the fifth and sixth day of the Lemosho route

Detail of the stay : Climbing Kilimanjaro Machame way - 6 days
Day 1: Machame Gate (1800 m) - Machame Camp (3000 m)
Elevation gain: 1200 m | Distance: 5 km | Walking time: 5-6 hours | Difficulty: medium | Environment: tropical forest
Your guide will pick you up from your hotel in the morning and take you to the Machame gate, where your climb begins! Today's route takes you through beautiful, untouched rainforest. The climate is humid on this side of the mountain, so nature is flourishing and very green. After five to six hours of walking, you will reach Machame camp, at the edge of the forest with a heath area.
Day 2: Machame Camp (3000 m) - Shira Camp (3840 m)
Elevation gain: 840 m | Distance: 5 km | Walking time: 4-5 hours | Difficulty: easy | Environment: moor
Today you'll start with a nice, slightly steeper climb, but one that will quickly reward you with a breathtaking view. Keep in mind the increase in altitude and, most importantly, walk at the right pace. Our experienced guides will help you with this. The first part of the hike leads to a small circular cliff known as Picnic Rock. Here you can enjoy breathtaking views of Kibo (one of the peaks of Kilimanjaro) and Shira (one of the other volcanic peaks). From the famous Picnic Rock, you walk to Shira Camp along a beautiful route. You will have lunch there and then you can do an acclimatization walk towards the Lava Tower (at an altitude of 4120 meters and a distance of 2 km).
Day 3: Shira Camp (3840 m) - Lava Tower (4630 m) - Barranco Camp (3960 m)
Elevation gain: 790 m | Elevation loss: 670 m | Distance: 11 km | Walking time: 6-8 hours | Difficulty: medium | Environment: moor
Today's hike leads from Shira Camp to the magnificent Lava Tower. This part of the climb has many ascents and descents and offers beautiful views along the way. This is a longer hike and you may feel a little uncomfortable due to the increased altitude. Therefore, it is important to stay at the Lava Tower for one to two hours to allow your body to acclimate. That's why lunch will be taken there. After lunch, you descend to the Barranco camp. There you will meet strange flowering plants that grow up to five meters high! The Barranco camp is located at the foot of the imposing Barranco wall, which is impressive both in size and steepness. Fortunately, the path leading to it is not so difficult.
Option: If some participants prefer to choose a route at a lower altitude than the Lava Tower, it can be adapted to a route with a maximum altitude of 4400 meters.
Day 4: Barranco Camp (3960 m) - Barafu Camp (4640 m)
Elevation gain: 680 m | Distance: 11 km | Walking time: 8-10 hours | Difficulty: difficult | Environment: alpine desert
After breakfast, we leave the Barranco camp and walk to the Barranco wall. This route is difficult but enjoyable and for many people it is their favorite part of the climb because of the breathtaking views. Once you reach the top of the Barranco Wall, you have a spectacular view of Kibo volcano to your left and distant Mount Meru to the right. Now a more challenging hike begins to Karanga Camp, this route has many ups and downs, but our guides are experts at choosing the right route and pace for you. Barafu Camp is the last camp before the summit, where you will be served a hot meal. Take time to relax and sleep, because around midnight you start your last ascent to the summit!
Day 5: Barafu Camp (4640 m) - Uhuru Peak (5895 m) - Millennium Camp (3820 m)
Elevation gain: 1255 m | Elevation loss: 2075 m | Distance: 15 km | Walking time: 8-12 hours | Difficulty: difficult | Environment: arctic
Tonight you will leave Barafu Camp to climb to the top of Kilimanjaro (Uhuru Peak)! The climb is on good trails, the most difficult being the high altitude. There is a personal guide for every 2 climbers to keep a close eye on the climbers' physical and mental well-being.
Once you reach the top, you can enjoy a beautiful sunrise, which is quite impressive at this height! After a small party at the top, you can descend to the nearest glacier if you wish. You return to Barafu Camp and start the descent to Millennium Camp after two hours of rest.
Day 6: Millennium Camp (3820 m) - Mweka Gate (1650 m)
Elevation loss: 2170 m | Distance: 12 km | Walking time: 4-5 hours | Difficulty: easy | Environment: tropical forest
The Millennium Camp is located in a tropical rainforest. When you wake up, you will feel a pleasant sensation due to the reduction in altitude and the satisfaction of having reached the summit. After breakfast, you will go to the exit of the park.
After the descent, the whole group gathers to congratulate each other and your driver will take you back to the hotel for a well-deserved rest!
