Nairobi is a dynamic metropolis renowned for its unique blend of urban and natural attractions. The Samburu National Reserve is characterized by plains dotted with acacia trees and the winding Ewaso Nyiro River. You can observe a variety of wildlife, including the "Samburu Special Five" (Grevy's zebra, reticulated giraffe, Somali ostrich, gerenuk and Beïsa oryx). Adjacent to Samburu, Buffalo Springs National Reserve shares similar landscapes and wildlife. The Ewaso Nyiro River flows through both reserves, providing a vital artery for a diverse range of wildlife. Buffalo Springs is known for its large buffalo population, which can often be seen congregating near the river. The combination of Samburu and Buffalo Springs offers a complete safari experience in Kenya's northern region.

VISIT TO THE CITY OF NAIROBI
Spend the morning at the Giraffe Centre, a conservation and education center offering a unique opportunity to get up close and personal with Rothschild's endangered giraffes. Learn more about giraffe conservation efforts and enjoy the opportunity to feed and interact with these majestic animals.
Visit the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, renowned for its program to rescue and rehabilitate orphaned elephants. Watch the baby elephant show during feeding time and learn more about the organization's elephant conservation efforts.
Take a lunch break at a local restaurant, where you can sample Kenyan cuisine.
In the afternoon, head to Bomas of Kenya, a cultural center featuring traditional music, dance and crafts representing Kenya's diverse ethnic groups. Experience vibrant performances, including traditional dances, songs and acrobatics.
FROM NAIROBI TO SAMBURU
Early morning departure for your adventure road trip. The drive to Samburu National Reserve usually takes you through a mix of urban areas and picturesque landscapes.
Enjoy the change of scenery as you leave the bustling city behind. The route takes in Kenya's central highlands, with views of coffee, tea, sisal, pineapple and subsistence farming. The view of snow-capped Mount Kenya along the safari route will be a breathtaking scene as you traverse Kenya's central highlands.
You'll arrive at Shaba National Reserve around midday, where you'll check in at Sarova Shaba Game Lodge and have lunch on site. After lunch, you'll set off on a safari through the national reserve, where you'll enjoy hot springs and a waterfall along the Ewaso Nyiro River.
You'll see Grevy's zebra, Somali ostrich, gerenuk, reticulated giraffe, gazelles, lesser kudu, leopards, lions, elephants and birds. Later, you'll have dinner and spend the night at the lodge.
SAFARI IN BUFFALO SPRING NATIONAL RESERVE
Breakfast at 8 a.m. followed by departure for Buffalo Springs for a safari.
You'll cover vast distances with an expert guide to spot diverse wildlife.
You might even witness a lioness or cheetah hunting its prey, a protective mother elephant fending off crocodiles on the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River, or the playful games of gazelles in the savannah.
Along the way, you'll visit one of the Samburu villages, where you'll experience the generosity of the Samburu people, who are happy to share their traditions and beliefs.
Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
SAFARI IN SAMBURU NATIONAL RESERVE
You'll start the new day with a safari to look for lion, leopard, cheetah and anyone else who might show up in the dawning light.
Following the course of the Ewaso Ngiro River, we'll be on the lookout for elephant, buffalo and some of the most entertaining wildlife species such as dik-dik, warthog and olive baboon.
Samburu is also known as one of the two areas where conservationist Joy Adams raised Elsa the lioness, later made famous in the book and film "Born Free".
Here, too, you'll find the Samburu people, closely related to the Maasai, an indigenous pastoralist group that has inhabited this region for eons.
As always on our safaris, be as active as you like or relax in your safari accommodation. Dinner and overnight at Sarova Shaba Game Lodge.
DEPARTURE
The last morning in the park will allow you to add more wildlife sightings to your list. However, not all the park's wildlife is limited to mammals. Samburu is home to over 350 species of birds, including kingfishers, vultures, guinea fowl, herons, hawks and eagles. There's plenty to see on land, in the springs and in the air.
Enjoy another safari as you leave the park on your return to Nairobi.
Arrival in Nairobi and lunch at the Carnivore restaurant, renowned for its unique culinary experience, specializing in a variety of grilled meats in an all-you-can-eat feast. Transfer to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for your return flight. Arrive at the airport and complete check-in and security formalities. Meet you at your boarding gate.
