Along the Rift Valley, the park is an exceptional site for observing a wide variety of wildlife (lions, elephants, giraffes, buffalo, hippos...). The shores of the lake are populated by thousands of flamingos in perpetual migration, as well as numerous pelicans, fish eagles, sacred ibises, crowned cranes and over 400 species of birds. Lions perched in the umbrella acacias are a unique sight in Africa. At the end of the day, a short stopover to reach your lodge. Dinner and overnight at Bougainvillea Safaris Lodge
CRATER DU NGORONGORO
Steps: Ngorongoro Crater
Day 5: NGORONGORO CRATER
Depart in the morning for a grand discovery of wildlife paradise, discover the Ngorongoro Crater with picnic lunch at midday. The centerpiece of the conservation area is undoubtedly the Ngorongoro Crater itself. Declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, it is the largest intact caldera in the world. This collapsed volcano measures around 20km in diameter, with impressive walls ranging from 400 to 610 metres in height and 1,600 metres in altitude. The 265 km² crater floor is mainly covered with grass, making it easy to observe the fauna. The landscape is made up of the Leraï forest, a small forest of trees whose distinctive feature is the yellow acacia, Lake Magadi and two marshes, Mandusi and Gorigor. Unlike national parks, where all human activity is forbidden, this territory enjoys an intermediate status, without the name of national park, allowing the Masai people to live and herd here. The trail climbs through lush jungle on the flanks of the volcano, leading to the crater crest. As you arrive at the crater rim, you'll discover a superb view of this animal paradise. Descend into the crater 600 metres below for a fascinating safari, where more than 30,000 animals live, all of them represented - except the giraffe, which didn't make it over the rock walls.
