Most famously, this "impenetrable forest" also protects around 460 mountain gorillas, including several habituated families. This biologically diverse region is also home to 120 other mammal species, including several primate species such as baboons and chimpanzees, as well as elephants and antelopes. The forest is home to some 350 bird species, including 23 species endemic to the Albertine Rift.
