Arrival in Arusha/Moshi
Steps: Arusha
A Meseno Adventures representative will meet you at the airport and take you to your accommodation in Arusha/Moshi, where you'll spend the night, relax and prepare for the adventures ahead.
From Arusha to Tarangire National Park
Steps: Tarangire National Park
After breakfast, our safari guide will collect you from your lodge in Arusha and welcome you with a broad smile in anticipation of our next adventures. We'll take a good tarmac road to Tarangire, passing through gently rolling Maasai plains dotted with acacia trees. As we go along, we see many brightly-dressed Masai walking along the road, cycling, herding cattle and driving donkey-drawn carts
We'll certainly arrive in time for a picnic lunch and a little rest before continuing our afternoon safari. Tarangire National Park, famous for its large herds of elephants, is a diverse landscape of seasonal swamps, savannah and the Tarangire River, the lifeblood of the park. From the open roof of the vehicle, we'll observe zebras, wildebeest, buffalo, elephants and giraffes among the many animals that inhabit this region. We may see Simba stalking his prey or the leopard relaxing in the trees. We leave the park after a long safari and head for our nearby lodge, where we dine and relax before returning to our quarters.
From Tarangire to Lake Manyara National Park
Steps: Manyara National Park
After breakfast, we board our car for Lake Manyara National Park, a small but very diverse park located 120 kilometers west of Arusha. The park, also known as the Shallow Salt Lake, covers around 70% of the park area, floods and dries seasonally, and is home to thousands of flamingos and over 500 other bird species. We'll see monkeys, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, buffalo, elephants and, if we're lucky, lions basking in the trees as we explore the park.
In the afternoon, we'll stop at one of the designated picnic areas for lunch while admiring the beauty of the park. After all the day's excursions, we'll return to our lodge for dinner, perhaps a fireside digestif, conversation and a mental examination of the wilderness images we've collected throughout the day before retiring for a well-deserved rest.
From Lake Manyara to the Ngorongoro Crater and Arusha
Steps: Ngorongoro Crater
After an early breakfast, we leave our lodge with packed lunches for a drive through the Rift Valley to the cooler regions of the Ngorongoro Highlands. The Ngorongoro Crater, the world's largest volcanic caldera, was formed two to three million years ago by the massive explosion of a volcano once taller than Kilimanjaro. Almost 20 km wide and 600 m deep, it is renowned for the diversity of its wildlife, including the "Big Five" (lion, elephant, buffalo, rhinoceros and leopard).
It is widely recognized as one of the truly magnificent wonders of the world. In addition to the "Big Five", the various springs attract wildebeest, gazelle, reedbuck and over 500 species of bird. We enjoy a delicious lunch at a picnic site before continuing to observe the animals in the crater. We leave the crater in the evening, heading up the steep, winding road to Arusha, our adventure over and full of images of the African wilderness for the rest of our days.
