Day 1

arrival in Costa Rica

Welcome by your driver and private transfer to your hotel. A Trio de Turismo representative is at your hotel to welcome you and give you your travel documents: your vouchers, a map of Costa Rica, access maps for each hotel, a leaflet to help you identify the fauna and flora and our advice.

Night in hotel.

Day 2

from San Jose to Tortuguero

Departure around 6 a.m. from your hotel with your lodge's minibus. Bus size depends on number of passengers. Drive through the Cordillera Central and Braulio Carrillo Park.

Around 7:30 am breakfast.

Continuation through banana plantations and by boat from La Pavona pier to your lodge. Lunch at the lodge. In the afternoon, visit the village of Tortuguero and the beach.

Day 3

Tortuguero National Park

After breakfast, take a guided boat tour to observe the animal life in the national park with your guide. The opportunity to see caimans, otters, howler and spider monkeys, toucans, sloths and many birds. Lunch at the Lodge. Afternoon free to enjoy the hotel facilities and canoes.

Dinner and overnight at the lodge

Outside the turtle nesting season, Tortuguero remains an exciting place where vegetation and animals are omnipresent. Most trips are made by boat on the canals and rivers.

May, June, July and August are the months when leatherback turtles lay their eggs in Tortuguero. This activity can be booked at the lodge and costs 55 USD per person.

Day 4

from Tortuguero to Boca Tapada

Breakfast and return by boat to La Pavona pier, then by road to Guapiles, where lunch is included.

Around 1 p.m., return your vehicle to the restaurant.

Drive to the north of the Caribbean plain. You'll pass through Puerto Viejo de Sarapiqui, Pital and El Saino. From Pital to Boca Tapada, the road crosses numerous pineapple plantations.


Overnight at a treehouse lodge or bungalow facing the lagoons, subject to availability.


Excellent location for birdwatching of all kinds, especially toucans

Day 5

Fauna and flora

Free day in the Boca Tapada region.

The lodge takes care of organizing all on-site activities, including a short discovery of the rainforest, planting a tree to help reforestation and the use of canoes in the lodge's lagoon.

Included: nocturnal observations with a naturalist guide (frogs, insects, mammals, reptiles...)

Overnight at the lodge in a treehouse or bungalow facing the lagoons, subject to availability.

Day 6

from Boca Tapada to Arenal volcano

Drive to the Arenal volcano. You'll pass through Pital, Muelle and La Fortuna.

In the afternoon, you can visit the Arenal Volcano National Park, the Arenal Observatory Lodge reserve or the Arenal 1968 reserve, which is adjacent to the national park. You can access ancient lava flows and a viewpoint.

Day 7

Canopy and hot springs

We recommend: 9 a.m. access to the hanging bridges of the Arenal volcano. A 4-kilometer hike through the jungle, interspersed with bridges. Some suspension bridges are over 100 meters long, others over 70 meters high. For the more adventurous, a jungle cable car, Sky Tram, provides access to the start of the zip lines, Sky Trek.

For evening relaxation, the hot springs.

Day 8

From Arenal to Tenorio

After breakfast, continue to the Tenorio volcano rainforest, skirting Lake Arenal and then passing along the volcano's flanks on a superb track from Tierras Morenas to the Bijagua road.

Leaving the Arenal volcano area after breakfast, you can be at your hotel by late morning, leave your luggage there and discover the Tenorio volcano national park and the Rio Celeste in the afternoon. The national park has a capacity of 1,000 people per day.

We recommend that you plan to enter Tenorio Volcano National Park between 12.25 and 1.05pm. Tickets can be purchased online. We can do this for you. https://www.triodeturismo.com.

Day 9

Fauna and flora of Costa Rica

Free day to discover the Cano Negro refuge by boat, Rincon de la Vieja Park, the Tapir Valley, Palo Verde Park or go rafting on the Rio Tenorio.

Day 10

from the Tenorio to the south of the Nicoya peninsula

Continuation to the south of the Nicoya Peninsula. You'll pass through Nicoya and then along the Gulf of Nicoya via Jicaral and Paquera.

Several lodge and hotel options are available. On the Golf de Nicoya, where the beaches are sheltered, or on the Pacific coast, where beaches like Santa Teresa are geared to surfing and relaxation.

Day 11

Free day to enjoy the beaches of Gigante, Quesera and Curu. Also Tortugua Island, where you should go early in the morning to avoid the visitors arriving from Puntarenas at 11 a.m. On the Pacific coast, the beaches of Carmen, Santa Teresa and Hermosa. Nature: Curu reserve and Cabo Blanco national park.


Recommended: evening kayak excursion to observe the phenomenon of bioluminescence. Surfing at playa Santa Teresa and Hermosa.

Day 12

Free day to enjoy the beaches of Gigante, Quesera and Curu. Day 13

From the Nicoya Peninsula to the Central Pacific coast

Continuation to the Pacific coast by ferry from Paquera to Puntarenas, then via Puntarenas, Caldera, Jaco and Manuel Antonio, Quepos, Dominical and Uvita.

Manuel Antonio is a well-known tourist destination. The Dominical and Uvita areas are quieter, with the Marino Ballena National Marine Park nearby.

Day 14

National parks

Uvita is a region on the Pacific coast of Costa Rica, offering a variety of activities and attractions for visitors.

Uvita is famous for its whale-tail beach. Here you can soak up the sun, relax on the sand and swim in the warm waters of the Pacific Ocean. Nearby beaches such as Playa Hermosa and Playa Ventanas also offer superb scenery. You can enjoy water sports such as snorkeling, surfing, paddleboarding and kayaking.

The Uvita region abounds in magnificent waterfalls. The Uvita waterfall, also known as the "Catarata de Uvita", is a natural gem offering refreshing natural pools. The nearby Nauyaca waterfall is another natural wonder well worth a visit.

It's also the perfect place to observe marine mammals, including humpback whales.

Day 15

to the Osa peninsula

Around 9 a.m. from Dominical, around 7:30 a.m. from Manuel Antonio, drive south via Uvita, Palmar Norte and Sierpe.

In Sierpe, you'll meet at the Vegas restaurant, along the Sierpe River and diagonally across from the village's unique main square. Return your vehicle to the Vegas restaurant at around 10:30 a.m. Transfer by boat to your lodge at 11:30.

You will first cross the mangroves, then reach the Pacific Ocean.

Lunch at the lodge. In the afternoon, we recommend a hike along the coast to Rio Claro, where you're sure to be accompanied by macaws and howler monkeys. Primary jungle on one side and a succession of small coves of white, beige or grey sand on the other.

Be careful, it's dark by 6 p.m. and returning after sunset can be risky.

Day 16

Corcovado National Park

The national park tour includes guide, picnic lunch and entrance to the national park. Departure by boat is usually around 6.15 a.m. and return to the lodge around 3 p.m.

During the boat trip, you're likely to spot turtles, dolphins and humpback whales.

The guided tour of the park lasts around 4 hours. You'll discover unspoilt nature, unique vegetation and exceptional wildlife. It's not unusual to cross paths with tapirs, pumas or even jaguars.

Day 17

Boat departures are usually around 7:30 am. It's a 45-minute sail to the edge of the island. Here you can snorkel and observe the dense underwater fauna. Lots of fish, reef sharks, turtles and sometimes humpback whales along the way.

Day 18

return to San Jose and departure from Costa Rica

You have two options for getting back to San Jose, either by plane or by boat and car.

By plane (50 minutes):

7am or 11am Transfer to Drake airport.

9:30 or 12:40 flight Sansa Drake Bay - San Jose. You'll fly over the Osa Peninsula, then over the central Pacific coast (Dominical, Manuel Antonio).

Sansa Airline authorizes all Trio de Turismo Costa Rica travelers:

1 baggage item: 40 pounds per passenger or 18 kilograms in the hold.

1 piece of luggage with passenger max 10 pounds or 4 to 5 kilograms.

Baggage surcharge: $1.50 per pound. The extra weight is accepted only if the aircraft has not reached its maximum load weight. Otherwise, the baggage will follow on the next flight.

10:30 or 13:20 Arrival at San Jose international airport.

By boat and road (7 to 8 hours):

at 7am departure by boat to the village of Sierpe. Then at 8am from Sierpe, departure by road via Dominical, Jaco and Orotina, arriving in San Jose at around 3pm.
