Halloween is approaching and it's time to use your imagination to create your own decorations! If in the Anglo-Saxon countries, city districts are transformed into giant Halloween decorations, this pagan festival has gradually gained followers in Europe. October 31st is the occasion to spend a pleasant evening with family and friends. Cooking, choosing your best disguise, ringing doorbells to collect candy for the kids and joining a pub or a private party for the grown-ups! Before the big day, you have to take the time to make your decorations. And in DIY mode, it's always more fun than buying ready-made. The pumpkin in all its states
The pumpkin is one of the emblems of Halloween. It remains the basis of every home's decor. Of course, after having gone to the store to find a pumpkin, we take the time to empty it and create the scary face of Jack O'Lantern. We place some candles inside and the result is always spectacular once the work is placed on the fireplace or on a small table on the terrace. It's also nice to share it with the neighborhood. By stocking up on pumpkins, but also pumpkins or pumpkins, you can actually make a multitude of decorative elements. Ghosts all over the house
Isn't Halloween the time when ghosts come to mingle with the living? That's what the legend says, if we refer to the origins of this celebration: the Celtic festival of Samain. So how could they not be part of the party? Here are several ideas of ghosts to create yourself.
Let's start by finding some maple or plane tree leaves in nature. You'll need to be a little forward-thinking because before using them to make Halloween ghosts, you'll need to allow a few days to dry them between the pages of an old book, after dehumidifying them with a paper towel. Once the leaves are dry, we need a brush, black and white paint and a glass of water. We start by covering the leaves completely with white, before creating the mouth and eyes with black. The shape of the maple and plane leaves gives the impression of ghosts raising their arms! The little ghosts can then be glued with adhesive paste anywhere you like in the house. Another option is to hang them from the dining room lampshade by creating a small hole above the head and threading a piece of yarn through.
For outdoors, another activity is to blow up a balloon to make the ghost's head and lay an old white sheet over it. Two holes are created in the middle of the sheet to pass a string through, and then the middle of the sheet is glued to the balloon with a very strong glue. We will then tighten the sheet at the bottom end of the balloon with our hands, then tie another string at what will be the neck of the ghost. Draw the eyes and mouth with a black marker or paint. Hang the string above the balloon on a tree branch. Then, pull up two sections of the sheet on the sides and tie them to the branch with more string. These are the arms! There you have it, a Halloween ghost that seems to be among us in the garden.
A candle festival
Halloween totally lends itself to lighting dozens of candles on the night of October 31. It's easy to create candles that are sure to be a hit when the kids are entertained with a Trick or Treat. First of all, you will have to put aside the empty wine bottles. Place a white candle in the bottle and let the wax drip down the sides. The more the bottle is covered with wax, the more the Halloween effect is accentuated! Simple, effective and zero waste.
Another trick is to use glass jars, in which you can find vegetables for ratatouille or peas and carrots for example. The idea is to cover them with white tape, yes yes, the one you use when you sprain your ankle. Then we put some eyes to glue that we can easily find in a hobby store, we put a tea light inside the jar, and here we are! We have beautiful mummies to scatter inside the house, on the balcony or on the terrace
Eyes to decorate or to taste: boo!
The following element will have two possible functions: it can be used to decorate the table for the Halloween meal or to organize a terrifying tasting. For this purpose we will need transparent glasses, lychees in syrup, grapes, blueberries or black olives and grenadine syrup.
We start by rinsing the grapes and lychees in syrup. In the next step, the grapes are incorporated into the lychee to create eyes. The lychee is the white of the eye and the grapes, the pupil. In a transparent glass, we prepare a grenadine. Be careful not to pour too much syrup so that the red is not too dark. We incorporate several lychees in the same glass and we get eyes that are bathed in a pool of blood. So, who's ready to taste?
Garlands, because that's the basis!
It won't be long before we bring out the Christmas decorations, but before that, there's the long-awaited October 31 party. The Christmas lights have been sitting in the box for almost a year now. Well, we are going to use them to create a 100% Halloween atmosphere. First of all, we cut out black cat heads, pumpkins or ghosts from colored cardboard. We pierce holes in the eyes, making sure that two small bulbs that follow each other enter the two eyes of the same character. We place the characters in cardboard paper in a row, so as to cover the entire garland. The result is amazing!
Mice that invade the house
We finish with a Halloween decoration trompe-l'oeil that surprises every time. We will need a good amount of black cardboard paper for this. The next step is to go on the Internet to print different patterns of mice: a mouse that seems to walk, another raised on its two hind legs, one that looks down, etc. Once the mice are cut out of the black paper, you can have fun attaching them with adhesive paste all over the house: along the baseboards, the stairs, on the furniture legs. Be careful that the guests do not shout when they enter. Even the cat might get suspicious!
