It is a concept that comes from Amsterdam and which, since 2009, has been gradually exported (it even crossed the Atlantic to be developed in Pasadena, in the United States). In France, the Repair Café Paris association was created in 2013. The idea is simple and up-to-date: avoid throwing away broken down everyday equipment/objects by repairing them or learning how to repair them. And this is free of charge. In concrete terms, the association regularly organizes workshops (always on a Saturday) in the capital during which volunteer repairers either bring life back to life themselves or give you the keys to repair your broken down items yourself. Please be aware that there are a few principles to follow if you wish to participate in these "friendly and participatory" events: you can only present one item at a time (you will have to queue again to submit a second one); there is no obligation of result, as repairers do their best to make faulty items work again, and the association does not undertake to provide the necessary spare parts for the repair. If it is free, "a contribution to support the running of the Repair Café (donation or membership of the Repair Café Paris association) is welcome", as indicated in the association's charter. Last but not least: the wait before meeting a repairer can be long; in the meantime, you can enjoy a cup of coffee or tea, or even play a board game.
