This map works in all the states of the European Union/European Economic Area (Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway) and Switzerland. It certifies your rights to Health Insurance and allows you to take care of your medical care on the spot, according to the legislation and formalities in place in the country of residence. You only have to present it to the doctor, the pharmacist and the public service hospitals: either you will be relieved of medical expenses or you will be reimbursed on-site by the Social security agency of the country.
Ask for at least 15 days before your departure to your Health insurance fund. It is individual and personal. Every member of your family must have his or her own, including children under the age of 16. No document is to be provided at your request.
Cards issued since July 1, 2014, are valid for up to 2 years. However, the validity of your EHIC will not exceed the duration of your Health insurance rights.
