The French territory is divided into six zones corresponding to six water agencies. These public institutions of the ministry responsible for sustainable development have the task of helping to reduce pollution of all origins and to protect water resources and aquatic environments. As essential actors in the implementation of the public water policy, organised in France around the principle of concerted basin management, water agencies carry out their tasks under multiannual action programmes with the aim of having two thirds of the water masses in good condition as early as 2015.
The six territories and the location of the regional antenna: Rhône-Mediterranean-Corsica (Lyon), Artois-Picardie (Douai), Seine-Normandie (Nanterre), Loire-Brittany (Orléans), Adour-Garonne (Toulouse) and Rhine-Meuse (Mills-les-Metz).
