ÉDITIONS ALTERNATIVES

The Alternative Editions, it is forty years from a course the nose of the wind, favouring the paths to the marked routes, to the pursuit of women ideas. In 1975, four journalists, Gérard Aimé, Patrice Aoust, Philippe Bone, and Marie-Paule Nougaret, published a first book, practically as authors, with the support of the Parallel bookshop. The Catalogue of Resources, in three volumes, will exceed 100,000 sales and will result in the birth of Alternative Editions and the distribution of the same name. Today only one of the first two authors of this book, Patrice Aoust, still hosts the site of Alternative Editions. After a course that will see the disappearance of the alternative diffusion, a merger with the editions Syros, the resumption of total independence in 1995, Alternatives is today a structure of two employees who produce thirty new per year and ten reissues. Practical ecology, architecture, design, photo, calligraphy, practical guides, street art, illustrated literature, culinary art… the themes of the choice of Alternative Editions have emerged without any obvious logic, as desired by desires, pleasure, and air of time. Since 1975, Alternatives has published 750 titles. Each of these works has been the occasion of a meeting, a passion, often shared with a sufficient number of readers to perpetuate the desire to discover and make discover.
