A public holiday, "la grande fête" is a time of communion and sharing between Cameroonians of all religions.

Also known as Aïd Al Kebir or Aïd al Adha in North Africa, literally meaning "the great feast" or "feast of sacrifice", this is the most important event in Islam. The date varies according to the Muslim lunar calendar. In Cameroon, it's known as the Feast of the Sheep. It's customary to kill a sheep if you can afford it, and share it with neighbors and the needy. It's a public holiday, and a great moment of communion and sharing between Cameroonians of all religions.
