LE NGOUON

It is a traditional Bamoun festival, organized every two years and marked by fantasias. The Cérémonie (plural of lamido), the Fons and the Fôs (respectively the traditional chiefs of the North, North-West and West) are invited to this ceremony. Originally, the Ngouon was a ceremony of the Tikars (which would in fact be descendants of the Bamouns), which was held every year and used to settle land disputes. During this ceremony, sponsored by chiefs and kitchener of the various tribes in the region, the wisdom of minds was sought to resolve conflicts and bring cohesion between the various social groups. Ngouon has become, over time, a major event in the Bamouns and testifies to their aspirations for peace, dialogue, unity and democracy. Next Ngouon in 2018.
