FOOD FOR THE HUNGRY
Rwanda is a small country in Central Africa, bordered by Uganda, Tanzania, Burundi and the Democratic Republic of Congo. The country is characterized by mountainous terrain in the west and savannahs in the east, with numerous lakes throughout. The climate is temperate to subtropical, with two rainy and two dry seasons each year. The country's capital is Kigali, and the population is around 12.21 million. Rwanda is also known for having the highest number of women parliamentarians in the world, with 56% of parliamentarians being women. Food for the Hungry (FH) is an organization that has been working in Rwanda since 1994. Their initial work focused on responding to the humanitarian crisis caused by the genocide, helping to trace and reunite children with their families, providing emergency food aid and supporting livelihoods. Since 2001, FH has focused on long-term development, emphasizing livelihoods, nutrition and education. Currently, they work in 34 communities and sponsor 9,486 children.
