The week of April 7 is dedicated to various commemorations throughout the country in memory of the victims of the 1994 genocide.
April 7 marks the beginning of the genocide against the Tutsi in 1994, which lasted one hundred days. It has become an international day of reflection on the Rwandan genocide. Various commemorative events take place in the country. The period of national mourning begins with "Kwibuka" (Remembrance), the national commemoration, on April 7 and ends with Liberation Day on July 4. More than one million people died in the horror between April and July 1994.
