Rwanda celebrates its independence on July 1962.
July1 marks the anniversary of Rwanda's independence. In 2022, Rwanda and Burundi celebrated the 60th anniversary of their independence. The destiny of these two countries has been linked since the birth of the German colonial empire (1871). After the Second World War, the territory of Ruanda-Urundi came under the trusteeship of the United Nations (UN), whose administration was entrusted to Belgium. Grégoire Kayibanda (1924-1976) became the first president of independent Rwanda and the first elected president on October 26, 1961.
