Opening and closing hours are very flexible in Ghana. Some shops are open continuously (8:00-8:30 to 16:30-17:00), others close at lunch time (between 12:00-12:30 and 14:30-15:00).

Budget & Tips

Sometimes you'll have to negotiate prices. Here's a tip: divide the advertised price by two, then increase it little by little until you reach an agreement with the merchant.

To a lesser extent, Global Mama's boutiques (Accra and Cape Coast) are also "fair trade" addresses, but prices are considerably higher.

What's very local

Whether in Accra or in the cities and villages of the coast and the interior, Ghanaian handicraft production is rich and you will undoubtedly want to bring back many souvenirs: wood or metal sculptures, jewelry, paintings, clothing and various objects, but also some consumables (soap, honey, coffee, oils, etc.), you will be spoilt for choice. Be ready to negotiate firmly!
