St. John's Day is celebrated on June 24 (often as early as June 23). Big asados and traditional dishes(mbeju, butifarra, ryguazu ka'e, batiburrillo, chipa so'o...) are prepared. It's also a time for spectacular games around the fire. The pelota tatá is a balloon wrapped in a rag soaked in flaming gasoline, which is thrown at each other in the middle of the crowd! The tatá ári jehasa is even more impressive: you walk barefoot over embers for several meters. Most participants emerge unburned - a question of faith, no doubt!
