The Day of the Dead is celebrated twice a year, Boun Hokhao Padapdin in August and Hokhao Slak in September.
The Feast of the Dead is celebrated twice a year: on the 14th day of the waning moon of the 9th month (in August) and on the full moon of the 10th month (in September). The first one, Boun Hokhao Padapdin, can be considered as the Buddhist half-lent. The monks solemnly receive alms from the faithful to honour the dead and the spirits. Let us not forget that Buddhists believe in reincarnation. The second one, Hokhao Slak, takes place according to the same ritual.
