The Ila people (close to the Tonga ethnic group), settled around Maala, celebrate every year their ancestor and protector Shimunenga.
The Ila people (close to Tonga), settled around Maala, celebrate every year their ancestor and protector Shimunenga, who, by fighting his own brother - thanks in particular to child sacrifices and black magic - was able to protect his lands and guarantee his people and his livestock access to water sources. The first days consist of a great festival followed by prayers. On the last day, the Ila, dressed in wild animal skins, lead their cattle in the footsteps of Shimunenga.
