Practical information : Take a break Myanmar - Burma
Timetable
Bars are not legion in Yangon, apart from those in hotels. A few addresses are frequented by locals. To have a drink in the evening, it is better not to come too late, for fear of finding the door closed. The nightlife is definitely not the strong point of the Burmese who have learned to live at the rhythm of a rare electricity for many years. The Chinatown in the city centre and the Mahabandoola Garden Street are entirely covered with shops where you can come and sip a beer at any time of the day. One can also think of 19th Street which allows you to have a drink until late, around 11pm! Same schedule for some rooftops, more stilted. On the other hand, the tea houses, open early in the morning and until late in the evening, are a real institution. They are mainly male, but you won't be looked at sideways if you come to sip a coffee alone. American-style coffee shops have also appeared in recent years, offering all sorts of coffees, cappuccinos, lattes, and often pastries from 8am to 8pm.
What's very local
For those looking to immerse themselves in Yangon's nightlife, Chinatown and its 19th Street is the ideal place. Bars and restaurants parade one after the other along the night market. Tourists and locals alike gather around a beer in this always crowded street.
