The New Year(Viti i Ri) is celebrated with two official public holidays, January and 2. We wish each other Gëzuar vitin e ri.

In Albania, the New Year (Viti i Ri) is celebrated with two official holidays on January1 and 2. Some children still receive gifts from Babagjyshi i Viti të Ri ("Father New Year"). An invention of the Communist dictatorship, which banned Christmas celebrations from 1967 to 1991. Albanians also share many customs with their Greek neighbors. On January1, for example, it's quite common for locals to throw a pomegranate (the fruit!) in front of their doors to bring good luck all year round.
