Soldier's Day is a public holiday in honor of General Francisco Morazán (1792-1842). He went down in history as an eminent statesman, the main driving force and defender of liberal republicanism, democracy and Central American union. Military parades are held in the streets of major cities. In the capital, the statue of Morazán was decorated and flowers were laid on behalf of the armed forces in the presence of all the highest authorities.
