Lithuania celebrates its independence from Russia on February 16, 1918, with commemorations, concerts and performances.
On February 16, 1918, Lithuania, then occupied by German troops, declared its independence from Russia and became an independent republic. On this day, major Lithuanian cities hold commemorations, concerts and other events. Independence Day is also celebrated in Estonia (February 24, 1918).
