It's the traditional festival of lovers, the Romanian cousin of Valentine's Day. It also heralds the awakening of nature.
It's the Romanian equivalent of Valentine's Day, celebrated on February 24. This ancient festival has regained popularity in recent years, in a much simpler and more modern form. Traditionally, up until the 19th century, the young men and women of the village, dressed for the occasion, would set off together to pick flowers and chat. At midday, everyone returned to the village and each young man ran after the girl he loved. If he caught her and she liked him too, they kissed in front of the others.
