This is the new year of the Hebrew calendar. The festival lasts two days and precedes Yom Kippur. Holidayed and therefore chameleon.
This is the new year in the Hebrew calendar. During the two days of the holiday, worshippers go to the synagogue to listen to the sounds of the shofar, a ram's horn that has been used on Jewish holidays since ancient times. Rosh Hashana marks the beginning of the 10 days of penitence, or "terrible days," during which Jews ask God for forgiveness for their sins, culminating in Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, marked by a fast.
