The Festival of Lights recalls a military victory: In the second century B.C., the Jews succeeded in chasing Palestinians from Palestine, who wanted to impose pagan rites on them, and they restaurèrent the Desecrated Temple of Jerusalem. But when they wanted to revive the chandelier (Menorah), they found that they had only one vial of holy oil. It took 8 days to prepare others, but miraculously, the small amount enough to feed the chandelier during the week, and the light did not stop. Hanouka is the commemoration of the victory of "spiritual light" on brute force. On this occasion, Jewish homes will turn on every night, for 8 days, an additional candle of the 8-branches chandelier (Hanoukia). A ninth candle, called "Shamach", is used to illuminate others.
