In mid-September, in the Hodh El Gharbi region, in Aïn Farba, a festival for culture and arts is held since 2011. Competitions of reading and recitation of the Koran, Arabic and folk poetry, target shooting, horse racing and culinary arts are on the program of this 3-day festival. Around this event, a project of safeguarding intangible heritage is underway, motivated by UNESCO, with the objective of preserving and conserving the epic of Oulad Mbarek (warrior epic of Mauritania, transmitted by the griots).
