To discover or learn a little more about Mauritania, what better way than to read the words of one of the country's children? Mbarek Ould Beyrouk was born in Atar in 1957. A journalist and author, he founded the country's first independent newspaper: Mauritania Tomorrow. Most of his works, novels and collections of short stories, are published by Elyzad. The latest one, Saara, was published in 2022. Mbarek Ould Beyrouk received the Ahmadou-Kourouma Prize and the Prix du roman métis des lycéens for Le Tambour des larmes (2015), a tale in the heart of the Moorish desert.
