The paradise island of the Caribbean has just joined the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) and is strengthening its position in convention tourism
Marianela Pina, Director of Conventions and Incentives at the Ministry of Tourism of the Dominican Republic (MITUR) welcomes this announcement, which is an important step forward for the development of tourism in the country. "With convention and congress tourism, the destination hopes to significantly increase its number of business visitors, whose economic impact can generate up to 7 times more revenue than a leisure tourist," she said
Between January and October 2014, the country welcomed 4,214,764 visitors, an increase of 9.7% - 374,003 more than the previous year at the same period. Growth is expected to continue with the country's entry into the CICA.
