Nightclubs and clubs are concentrated in the cities. Opening hours are often from 10 p.m. to 3 a.m. or later. Karaoke bars, very popular in the Philippines, have the same opening hours.

Budget & Tips

To get into a nightclub in Manila or Cebu, you'll need between Php200 and Php1,000 (sometimes including a drink). Some clubs are free, or offer free entry to women at certain events.

Night transport

On the islands, tricycles are always waiting outside the clubs and bars. In the cities, recommend an official cab or a Grab.

Age restrictions

The legal age for club entry is the same as the legal drinking age, i.e. 18. Some clubs only allow entry to those over 21. You may be asked to show your passport to verify your age.

What's very local

Philippines and Filipinos love to dress up and go out, so play along and do what they do. Especially when it comes to clubbing in the cities.

For a very local evening out, you'll often see (or hear) karaoke (a simple machine with a microphone) on beaches or in small barangays (villages). The locals love them, and will be delighted to share a moment of song with you. The price is derisory (a few pesos/hour).

Smokers

Smoking legislation in the Philippines is very strict. Smoking is prohibited in public areas, bars and nightclubs. In practice, some establishments provide a smoking area or terrace. Just ask or look for ashtrays.

Tourist traps

There are no particular scams to report. However, if you go out in Manila, it's very likely that you'll be approached on the street by (very) young women offering you a massage or sexual service. It's important to be vigilant and to avoid this kind of activity, which often involves prostitution, exploitation of minors and dark trafficking.
