All Saints' Day is very important in Guatemala: thousands of inhabitants decorate the graves of their loved ones with wreaths.
All Saints' Day is particularly important in Guatemala. All over the country, thousands of people go to the cemetery to decorate the graves of their loved ones with wreaths of flowers, before sharing a big meal with their families. Above all, the skies over the towns of Sumpango and Santiago, in the Sacatepéquez, are filled with incredible giant colored kites - called barriletes gigantes. They are deployed to scare away evil spirits that would like to invade the cemeteries and thus disturb the rest of the "good" souls.
