Practical information : Going out South Africa
Timetable
There are two atmospheres in South Africa, the city and the bush. In the big cities, the nightlife is lively, people dine late and the bars are full until late. Live concerts, dance bars and discos welcome the night owls. Then there is the life of the bush. The one with the sun, the one where you get up early and go to bed early.
Budget & Tips
Partying in South Africa doesn't require a huge budget. Don't think that life is cheap either. Even if it is cheaper than in Paris, some trendy places in the big cities are quite similar to Western prices. To go out for less, we go to the shebeens, the small bars in the townships.
Night transport
At night, it is preferable, even essential to travel by cab. With the Uber application, nothing could be easier, there will always be one around the corner. Ubers are used to taking people home, even on very short trips, so don't hesitate. Otherwise, remember to have a cab number ready if you know you'll be back late.
What's very local
Going out for a drink on Long Street or Kloof Street, meeting the South African youth in nice bars and small restaurants is very local. Another atmosphere, just as local: the trendy Woodstock district in Cape Town.
Smokers
Smoking is not allowed in the bars. On the terrace, tables can be reserved for smokers.
