When it comes to cinema, bowling, laser games, etc., opening times vary greatly depending on the type of establishment.

The performing arts are mainly the preserve of the Royal Opera - see the online program.

Trendy bars, still few and far between, are, with rare exceptions, mainly located in international hotels and almost exclusively in Muscat (and to a lesser extent in Salalah). They are open late into the night, especially on Thursdays (the eve of the weekend) and Fridays. Most cafés and shisha lounges are open every day until 10pm-midnight.

Some cultural outings such as the Opera's shows have to be booked in advance.

Night transport

Look out! The sultanate has zero tolerance for drinking and driving. It is imperative to use the services of a taxi if you are having a drunken meal or party, even if you are just having a beer or cocktail at the end of the day or a glass of wine at lunch.

What's very local

Only establishments with a liquor license are authorized to serve alcohol, i.e.: major hotels (although the granting of a license is not systematic and may be subject, in addition to the authorities, to the decision of the Omani owner) and some rare independent Muscat resto-bars, generally belonging to international chains.

Some bars, especially in Muscat and Sifah (Siddharta Lounge by Buddha Bar, Caramel, Living Room, The Bank Beach Club...) host international DJs. Check the local press and social networks for programming information.
