Opening hours Oman
To see / To do Oman
In Muscat most of the major museums are open from 10am to 5pm or 6pm every day except Friday morning. However, for the smaller museums in the country, the hours are variable and it is best to check before visiting. As far as forts and castles are concerned, everything depends on their importance: the biggest ones like those of Nizwa, Jabrin, Bahla... are open from 9am to 4pm every day (sometimes even later, 8pm for the fort of Nizwa for example) except on Fridays during prayer time. The smaller ones are generally open in the morning and close according to the number of visitors or the good will of the guardian.
Enjoying yourself Oman
In Oman, breakfast is usually taken around 9-10am, followed by lunch around 1pm and dinner around 7-8pm. As coffee shops are open continuously from early morning to late evening, it is easy to eat at any time of the day or evening. Restaurants, on the other hand, follow more traditional schedules, generally later on weekends. On those days, the crowds increase, especially for the famous Friday brunch served until 2:00-3:00 pm.
Take a break Oman
The famous coffee shops that dot the country are generally open all day long, from early morning to late evening. Coffee and tea shops adopt more international hours and are only found in the major cities. Those that are open in the evenings close later on Thursdays (the day before the weekend) and on Fridays and Saturdays.
(To) please yourself Oman
Grocery stores, supermarkets, shopping centers and malls are mostly open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. throughout the week, with the exception of Friday mornings in small towns. Souks, on the other hand, are open in the morning and late afternoon from 4 or 5 p.m., and are particularly lively at weekends.
Get out Oman
When it comes to cinema, bowling, laser games, etc., opening times vary greatly depending on the type of establishment.
The performing arts are mainly the preserve of the Royal Opera - see the online program.
Trendy bars, still few and far between, are, with rare exceptions, mainly located in international hotels and almost exclusively in Muscat (and to a lesser extent in Salalah). They are open late into the night, especially on Thursdays (the eve of the weekend) and Fridays. Most cafés and shisha lounges are open every day until 10pm-midnight.
