Firecrackers and drums are out for this popular festival celebrated by the Chinese and Vietnamese communities.
In most Southeast Asian countries, where Chinese and Vietnamese communities are important, the Chinese New Year (Tet in Vietnam) is celebrated. On this occasion, the Chinese and Vietnamese in Cambodia noisily demonstrate the passage to the new lunar year. Firecrackers accompany the drums and dragon dances. This is probably the only time of the year when the markets are almost closed, as well as a large number of stores, as these communities take an important part in trade.
