Around January 14th, Tamils and people from southern India celebrate the harvest. For 4 consecutive days, the faithful celebrate the end of winter and the arrival of spring. They purify themselves and thank the gods for the abundant harvest by making offerings of fruit, flowers and food. The sun god is honored, as are the rain and the draught animals essential to the nourishing cycle. Entering the month of "thai" marks the new year and the chance to seize new opportunities.
