Timetable
Most museums are open between 9am and 5pm, with a weekly closing day. Regional museums are often closed on Fridays between 12.30pm and 2pm. Some museums have extended opening hours at weekends and during school vacations. Almost all are closed for Hari Raya (last day of Ramadan), Christmas and the first day of Chinese New Year.

Reservations are rarely necessary, except for certain guided tours, hikes in national parks, workshops and shows. We always inform you if this is the case.
Budget & Tips
Entrance to a museum costs between RM5 and RM30. There are always discounts for children and sometimes for senior citizens. Entrances to national parks are also very inexpensive, from RM5 to RM20. On the other hand, admission to animal rehabilitation centers or amusement parks can be quite expensive (between RM30 and RM200).
Main events
With almost 40 public holidays a year, there are numerous celebrations in line with the Muslim, Christian, Buddhist and Hindu religious calendars. Added to this are anniversary dates such as Independence Day, National Day, Labour Day and the birthdays of the sultans. The country boasts numerous cultural and gastronomic festivals.
Guided tours
Some private museums require guided group tours in English. The company of a guide is sometimes compulsory for excursions to national parks, especially those lasting several days. You should expect to pay at least RM60 per day for the guide. Many activities are offered by private companies, such as gastronomic itineraries, guided cruises as in Malacca (Melaka), tours of tribal villages in Borneo or safaris. The options are numerous, and information is available from local tourist offices, hotels and travel agents.

Smoking is prohibited in public buildings and in national parks, except in designated areas.
