In the Buddhist republics: Khakassia, Tuva, Buryatia and in Transbaïkalie. Lunar New Year and early spring.
The festival of the "white month", Sagaalgan (or Tsagaan Sar) is the Lunar New Year. It usually lasts one month and marks the beginning of spring. During the celebrations, people give gifts, visit each other, enjoy white meals (based on dairy products) and delicate meat dishes. Sagaalgan means purification, the beginning of a new life and union with nature. In Ulaanbaatar, it is the occasion for rituals of cleansing the body and mind, which can be seen especially in the Ivolginsky datsan (e.g. Dugjuba, based on flour).
