Even though today's Russia has little to do with the USSR, Labour Day was recently revived.
Formerly marked by official demonstrations and parades, it almost did not survive the death of the USSR, but finally remained a public holiday and has recently been revived. The Russian president himself is usually present in the official procession. It is, of course, a very important day for communist activists in Russia, exalting the legacy of the workers revolutionaries of the early 20th century. Expect a tide of hammer and sickle flags!
