Practical information : Going out Sri Lanka
Timetable
In Colombo, clubs and discos are limited in number, and entrance fees are often charged for men. If you can't find the nightclub you've been waiting for, you can turn to the lounges in the major hotels, which we've also listed for you: drinks, music and dancing are also on offer. In the rest of the island, they are virtually non-existent, except in the busiest seaside resorts (Hikkaduwa in particular). Pubs and discos are generally closed on full-moon days (poya), as the sale of alcohol is prohibited.
To be booked
Tickets for performances (theater, dance, music) often need to be purchased in advance, mainly in Colombo or Kandy.
Night transport
Cabs are the safest and most convenient way to get around. Even with the night surcharge, fares remain very reasonable. You can also use the services of the PickMe app, Sri Lanka's equivalent of Uber.
Age restrictions
Access to bars and pubs is theoretically forbidden to young people under the age of 18. Sri Lankan women are not allowed to buy alcohol. The sale of alcohol is forbidden on full-moon days (poya).
What's very local
Apart from Bollywood, Sri Lankan and American films shown in the city's increasingly numerouscinemas, Colombo has no real entertainment on offer for the visiting tourist.
The only casinos on the island are in Colombo. Most of them are related to the big Las Vegas establishments, whose famous names they share. You can gamble, of course, but you can also enjoy a drink, a meal or a show.
The island's major resorts often offer traditional dance and music shows to entertain their guests.
Smokers
Smoking is forbidden in public places, although some establishments ( rooftop bars in Colombo, beach establishments, etc.) are open to the public.
