The faithful go to the temples to listen to the teachings of Buddha, meditate, and make flower offerings.

The full moon of March is an important holy day for Buddhists. This day commemorates Buddha's first visit to his father, Suddhodana, seven years after his Enlightenment. Buddha, accompanied by 20 000 monks, went to his father's kingdom to preach the Dhamma. In all the country the faithful ones go in the temples to listen to the teachings of Buddha (Dhamma), to meditate, and to carry out offerings of flowers. This poyais also the highlight of the pilgrimage season to Sri Pada (Adam's Peak).
