Seychelles : What to eat ? culinary specialties and gastronomy

Seychelles : Discover - (entdossierthema):titre

Seychelles : Enjoying yourself

Timetable Timetable Seychelles

Beware, in general in the Seychelles we live with the sun. Breakfast is served between 7am and 9.30am. For meals, restaurants are open every day, generally from 12:30 to 2pm for the last order and from 6:30 to 9:30pm for the last order too. Takeaways are open from lunch to dinner without interruption, but close at 7 or 8 pm.

Budget & Tips Budget & Tips Seychelles

For lunch on the go, take-away restaurants offer take-away trays. While you'll find a few burgers, it's mostly rice and freshly prepared fish that are on the menu. Good food, lots of it, at a low price. Expect to pay between SR60 and SR90 (€4 and €6) for a tray. A great way to have lunch on the beach and have more freedom for dinner.

What costs extra What costs extra Seychelles

If the bill can go up quickly, no unpleasant surprises when it comes time to pay for the meal. Prices are quoted inclusive of all taxes at virtually all shops and restaurants (with rare exceptions).

The local way The local way Seychelles

Go to the Victoria market to buy some excellent fruit, or to Anse Royale when you return from fishing, to find some good fish for self-catering. In Beau Vallon, the small pedestrian road that runs along the beach between the Savoy and the Boat House is home to food-trucks and small stalls selling local specialities. And, all the time, you can grab your take-away tray or cook in one of the many self-catering restaurants in the area.

Kids Kids Seychelles

Children are always welcome! Baby chairs and children's menus are de rigueur in all restaurants. Even the Creole buffets offer prices for kids. Often, coloring pages are provided to keep the toddlers busy while enjoying a curry or a lobster.

Smokers Smokers Seychelles

As in France, the restaurants are non-smoking, except on the terrace, of course.

Seychelles : Take a break

Timetable Timetable Seychelles

Mind you, you're not in Ibiza! Most hotel bars close at midnight. Some nightclubs extend the evening until 1 or 2 a.m. on weekends.

Budget & Tips Budget & Tips Seychelles

If Seychellois often take a cooler to rest on the beach, it's because, overall, having a drink is still quite expensive, as is the destination.

Age restrictions Age restrictions Seychelles

As in France, you have to be of legal age to enter a bar and the majority is set at 18 years old.

What's very local What's very local Seychelles

Enjoy the sunset with a few SeyBrew, the local beer, on Beau Vallon beach or at the nearby Beach Shak. Rebelote in the center of the great Côte d'Or beach or at Anse Lazio.

Seychelles : Discover

These dreamy little islands, often the fantasy of honeymooners leafing through honeymoon catalogs, are more than just their (sublime) white-sand beaches. A paradise for scuba divers, a champion of Creole culture and the world's only coco de mer sanctuary (the famous cocofesse stamped in your passport at customs), the archipelago has also had a rich history. Not least with the two periods of colonization (French, then English) that the archipelago has undergone. So let's set off to discover a young, mixed-race population, a lush natural environment and increasingly important ecological issues. Protecting the flora and fauna of these virtually untouched islands is vital. What's more, with a mild climate all year round, or almost, how can you fail to fall under the spell of these 115 bits of land scattered right in the heart of the Indian Ocean?
