Good to know when visiting les Seychelles
Timetable
Mahé's museums and galleries are generally open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday, until 1 p.m. on Saturdays and closed on Sundays. The Victoria Botanical Gardens and the Vallée de Mai are open to visitors every day.
To be booked
Generally speaking, all excursions can be booked through local service providers. However, it may be better to wait until you get there, in order to deal with the weather.
Budget & Tips
In Victoria, the Kaz Zanana is a magnificent example of Creole architecture that can be visited free of charge. In Praslin, there's a group ticket (600 SR, usable in 10 days) to visit the Vallée de Mai and Fond Ferdinand, two must-sees. On La Digue, buying a ticket for the Domaine de l'Union (150 SR) after 4:30 p.m., which gives access to the unmissable Anse Source d'Argent beach, and spending the afternoon there, is also valid for the whole of the following day.
Main events
The Creole Festival, held every year at the end of October, is the country's biggest event.
Guided tours
In the Vallée de Mai, independent guides offer their services. Negotiable... But all visits can be made on your own. Praslin's excursionists (guides/skippers) are a must for a day's boat trip to the surrounding islands. A must. Guided tours are available at Fond Ferdinand.
Smokers
As in France, it is forbidden to smoke in public places and restaurants. Outside, be careful with the environment and don't leave your cigarette butts lying around.
Tourist traps
At Vallee de Mai, much of the fun lies in being alone in the middle of nature. Before picking up a guide at the entrance, make sure you're not with a group of 15 or even 20 people. Otherwise, in Beau Vallon (Mahé) and Côte d'Or (Praslin), beware of touts offering excursions, and always check that the excursionist is beach-side.

Discover les Seychelles
These dreamy little islands, often the fantasy of honeymooners leafing through honeymoon catalogs, are more than just their (sublime) white-sand beaches. A paradise for scuba divers, a champion of Creole culture and the world's only coco de mer sanctuary (the famous cocofesse stamped in your passport at customs), the archipelago has also had a rich history. Not least with the two periods of colonization (French, then English) that the archipelago has undergone. So let's set off to discover a young, mixed-race population, a lush natural environment and increasingly important ecological issues. Protecting the flora and fauna of these virtually untouched islands is vital. What's more, with a mild climate all year round, or almost, how can you fail to fall under the spell of these 115 bits of land scattered right in the heart of the Indian Ocean?
